Teaching Scripture Powerfully With A Bible Timeline Chart

In our Sunday Bible class years ago, a friend who had been a Christian and worked in the local Church for over 15 years, made this statement,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they weren't talking about the pre-mosaic law) I wonder just how many Christians will really pick up the error in this claim. Moses lived about five hundred years after Abraham and so it is not possible. I have since made up a Bible chronology chart and explained more visually the chronology of individuals and events.


Some time ago, I was teaching on the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, and a retired minister and strong preacher of the Bible, who had been in the ministry for forty years, came up and reproved me vigorously over some fascinating points I made and he remarked 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was teaching anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he answered"No". I continued on to explain that in the case of that particular Scripture, it wasn't referring to examining the Bible but to the false teaching and school of thought of the Gnostics, but he would not accept it. Let me ask, how can a forty year minister & laborer in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that probably half the books of the New Testament refer to?
How can he understand and preach the Bible clearly without being familiar with something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be in a position to understand their Bible well, if they are not told?
Let's us as teachers and preachers sew together the aspects of the Bible and His plan into a complete picture that our people can draw on for the remainder of life, to help them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and how to better translate the Bible to live by.
It is not hard to do, and it's not boring if we are ready to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just possibly you can utilize a Bible Timeline as well.
