Preaching Through The OT Powerfully Using A Bible Timeline


Alas, a many preachers and Bible teachers in our churches continue to preach shallow, light weight, flimsy, superficial messages and their congregation scarcely grow in Bible knowledge and understanding. Preachers love to preach'moral essays' and'warming affirmations' because supposedly, if we really love people this is what we will do. Regrettable it seems, if God's people are falling through the cracks'for an absence of knowledge' so long as we're positive and loving to all. Truly, the more like the world, the less relevant we're to the world.
Some time ago, I was teaching on the resurrection, death, life and burial of Jesus Christ, and a retired pastor and powerful preacher of Scripture, who had been in the ministry for 40 years, came to me and reproved me smartly over some fascinating points I made and he said 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was preaching anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he said"No". I continued to spell out that in the case of that particular Scripture, it was not referring to examining the Bible but to the false teachings and school of thought of the Gnostics, but he would not have it. Let me ask, how can a 40 year minister & laborer in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that probably 1/2 the books of the New Testament relate to?
How could he understand and teach the Bible fully without being aware of something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be able to interpret their Bible properly, if they are not informed?
Let's us as instructors and preachers stitch together the aspects of God's Word and His plan into a logical whole that our people can draw on for the remainder of their lives, to help them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and how to better interpret the Bible to model our lives by.
It is not hard to do, and it's not boring if we're ready to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just maybe you can utilize a Bible Timeline also.
